Coastlines

I remember thinking to myself, haven’t I learned enough? But maybe this lesson wasn’t meant for me.

From loving you, I know a few things to be true: I know how to love. I know how to be a parent. I know how to stay.

If there’s a lesson here, it’s for you. You threw away the ocean for a kiddie pool—because you were too scared to swim.

ABOUT THE WRITING

Some experiences don’t ask to be solved, only witnessed. Writing gives me a place to remain with what is unresolved, contradictory, tender, and true. It lets me stay with the complexity of being human—of birth, grief, identity, loss, and connection.
